Fond farewell to Avocado magazine
Avocado 2011-09-21
Avusa Magazines today announced the closure of its food magazine, Avocado/Avokado, which made its debut into the food publishing industry five years ago.
“Avocado was created to fill a gap in the industry for a 100% food-driven publication, that sought to offer South Africans food inspiration that respected and encouraged local produce and local culinary talent,” says managing editor, Kerry Hayes.
Business manager, Claire Morgan, explains that “unfortunately, an economically beleaguered market has made the publication unsustainable”.
Avocado, published alternate-monthly and in both English and Afrikaans, has delivered over 2,000 recipes in its run, showcased top South African chefs and celebrities, covered wine, restaurant and product reviews, been active in the social media sphere, and published a
recipe book.
“It has been a pleasure creating the magazine every issue, and it will be sorely missed by both staff and readers alike, who supported us faithfully over the years,” concludes Hayes.

This is just terrible news! Avocado magazine has been our favourite foodie mag for years. Very sad indeed. (Beulah Harris)
