The search for our newest USN Face of fitness is well underway. By the time you read this letter we would have announced the final six ladies who will compete for the coveted spot on our cover and that highly prized USN ambassadorship.
But it9;s not all about winning – not even close! Many of the most well-known South African fitness models can attest to that. Take two-time fitness mag cover girl, Laura D, for example (the magnificent lady on this cover). She was once a USN Face of Fitness finalist, a mere four years ago in 2012.
Did you know? Cover girls Angie Snyman and Ashleigh Lemmer (Frost) also entered that year, neither of them making it to the final six.
Although Laura never made the top six, she took the opportunity and embraced the platform, and set out to make a name for herself in this industry regardless. Through her hard work, both on and off the stage, Laura has managed to find her niche in the fitness industry and has established herself as an innovator in the kitchen, placing her at the forefront of healthy cooking! Check out page 58 to see what she's been cooking up.
But why stop there? This issue brings a double dose of the best of the best. While Laura reigns in the kitchen, there's only one name that comes to mind when we think about owning it in the gym – Nicole Warburg! In her workout feature, “Hardcore” shares her toughest mash-up of fitness, functional training and CrossFit routines. Are you tough enough to attempt it? Let us know how you measure up!
And it is here that I end off for 2016. Rather than leaving you with empty words about resting and finding time to reflect on the year, I say “screw it!”. Get up, go out and work hard for the things you want and always stay hungry for success! You cannot change the past, but you have control over your future!
Happy training. (Oh, and don't forget to rest up and prep those goals for 2017!)
