PHASA, international subscription competition and family...
I recently attended the annual PHASA (Professional Hunters’ Association of South Africa) convention and AGM where African Outfitter, amongst other role-players, received a “Certificate of Support” in recognition of our substantial contribution towards their vision of responsible hunting for sustainable life and livelihoods. For me it was by far the most prestigious convention PHASA had held so far and I was amazed at the PHASA (I got to know 10 years ago) that has evolved into an effective association recognised globally by government departments and contributing substantially to the one thing that is dear to all hunters – conservation. This was PHASA’s 36th AGM, something to be proud of! Hans (Scruff) Vermaak finished his two-year term as president with his familiar flair and left the association in the capable hands of Hermann Meyeridricks. Scruff has achieved excellent results over the past two years with his “little Jack Russell, Adri Kitshoff, CEO of PHASA” by his side. We wish Hermann and his team all the best.
The African Outfitter team are very excited to announce the launch of a major subscription drive for our international readers. One lucky new international subscriber can win a five-species hunt (eland, gemsbuck, common springbuck, impala and warthog) valued at over US$12 000, generously donated by our good friends, Wintershoek Safaris. The hunt consists of eight nights and seven days of hunting for one hunter and one non-hunter (see pp 5 and 88 for more details).
A further ten lucky international subscribers will stand a chance to win one of ten tickets valued at N$1 000 each for a competition to win an elephant trophy hunt in the Caprivi, Namibia (see p 87 for more details).
Next time I write to you, it will be from the other side of “the pond” as we will be attending international shows, exhibiting our proudly African product. African Outfitter will exhibit at DSC in Dallas, SCI in Las Vegas, and at Birgit Johnstone’s African Hunting Events shows in Edmonton, Calgary and Toronto in Canada. We are proud to be associated with African Hunting Events, for which we also act as printed media partner.
I wish all the outfitters travelling to the international shows in January a very successful 2014 marketing drive! May you all return with bookings to proof to the world once again that the only workable solution to the burning issue of conservation is sustainable utilisation of our natural resources.
May you all return safely to your families and loved ones. To my own boys – kudu bull Driaan and buffalo bull Conrad – see you in mid-February 2014. Love you plenty!
